Police Arrest Man After He Carjacks Woman Near Waterfront, Causes Multi-Vehicle Crash in Central District

Police arrested a 47-year-old man this morning after he carjacked a woman near the Waterfront and caused a multi-vehicle collision in the Central District.

Tuesday morning, a woman found a man sitting in her truck near Post Avenue and Spring Street. The man shoved the woman and took her keys before speeding away in her vehicle.

Officers spotted the suspect at 5th Avenue and South Jackson Street, only to have him blow past them, through several red lights.

A short time later, police found a trail of debris near 23rd Avenue South and South Jackson Street and found the suspect had struck a vehicle near 23rd Avenue South and South Charles Street, which caused a multi-vehicle collision, damaging three additional cars.

The suspect fled from the crashed truck and ran into the yard of his own home nearby. When officers spotted the suspect he ran into his house, where police arrested him.

Police booked the man into the King County Jail for robbery and vehicular assault and are investigating whether the man may also have been driving while intoxicated.
