#2021-070036/North Precinct/Third Watch:
On 03-22-2021 at 2110 hours, officers responded to a 911 call of a subject passed out behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle. While contacting the driver, he attempted to flee in the vehicle. The driver drove up and down the block multiple times trying to escape but couldn’t due to traffic blocking the small residential street. The driver left the roadway in an attempt to get around stopped cars and struck a large mailbox. Due to the sturdy construction of the multi-unit mailbox, the suspect’s escape plan failed. The suspect drove back onto the roadway and drove down the block once more. He abandoned the car at this time and failed to follow officers’ commands. A foot pursuit ensued, and the suspect was apprehended hiding behind a residence under construction. The suspect made remarks triggering multiple type I Uses of Force. The stolen vehicle was impounded, and the suspect was processed by a Drug Recognition Expert-trained officer, a former DUI squad officer (cutting the amount of time the paperwork would have taken in half). Hospital guard was needed due to preexisting injuries. The suspect will be booked into the King County Jail for multiple felonies with multiple misdemeanor charge requests.
