On 04-26-2021 at 1401 hours, myself and one of my bicycle officers were patrolling the waterfront when security from Miners Landing flagged us down about a male that had jumped off of the pier into the water and was on the ledge under the sidewalk. Security stated he had grabbed him off the railing by his backpack, but the subject slipped the backpack and dove into the water. I called for Seattle Fire and SPD Harbor. When SFD boats arrived, they attempted to speak to the subject, but he would not communicate. The subject matched the description of a male with a knife who was cutting himself from an earlier call. The subject did indeed have open cuts across his forehead and other areas. SFD backed off and a bicycle officer and myself entered the SFD boat. We approached and the male agreed to put his knives in a bag that SFD extended to him on a pole. After a short conversation we were able to get the subject onto the boat and we returned to SFD station 5 where AMR met us to take the subject to the hospital for an evaluation.
