Police Still Working to Identify Deceased Woman in 1996 Case

The Seattle Police Department and King County Medical Examiner are seeking information about a woman, who has remained unidentified in the years since she was found dead from suicide in a downtown hotel in 1996.

Upon checking into the Downtown hotel under the name “Mary Anderson”—which does not appear to be her real name—the woman went to her room and reportedly had no further contact with hotel staff. No calls were made from the room. She was eventually discovered when she failed to check out of the room. Police found a suicide note, which stated she had no family. The woman had provided false information to the hotel, including a phone number with a New York area code and an address with a New York zip code, which produced no leads as to her identity.

The Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be self-inflicted cyanide poisoning.
