#2021-114786/Southwest Precinct/Second Watch:
On 05-11-2021 at 1400 hours, the SPD’s Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF), in conjunctions with the ATF Seattle- Crime Gun Task Force and WA DOC, assisted in arresting an outstanding felony DOC escapee who was wanted in connection with multiple shootings and possession of firearms (illegal to possess due to 8 felony convictions including PSP, Threats to Kill, Assault, Theft, TMV, 7 Misdemeanors, etc.). MCTF set up surveillance for ATF/DOC and located the subject. The suspect was taken into custody in Burien with no further incident. MCTF and ATF interviewed the suspect on scene and transported him to Monroe for booking. This is an ongoing, active investigation.
#2021-115112/West Precinct/Second Watch:
On 05-11-2021 at 1530 hours, patrol responded with Seattle Fire on a DOA call. The elderly victim was found deceased near the stove, partially burned. Fire Marshal responded and determined the fire to be accidental, related to a medical condition suffered by the victim while cooking. SPD’s Arson Bomb Squad Detectives were at the scene to assist and will handle the follow-up.
#2021-115172/West Precinct/Second Watch:
On 05-11-2021 at 1625 hours, an officer was flagged down in the vicinity of Cascade Playground regarding a bias incident. During the officer’s investigation, it was determined that the suspect had been yelling various racially motivated statements. Further, when the suspect attempted to take a backpack that did not belong to him, the reporting party (RP) intervened, at which time the suspect struck him in the leg with a length of rebar. Suspect then went on use several racially motivated bias terms toward the reporting party. When the owner of the backpack attempted to retrieve his own bag, the suspect pointed the end of the rebar toward his face in a threatening manner, picked up the backpack, and began walking away. As the officer continued the investigation, the RP, backpack owner, and several witnesses pointed out the suspect, who was still in the vicinity. As the officer attempted to contact the suspect, a foot pursuit ensued. Suspect was taken into custody without reportable force in an alley several blocks away. Suspect was arrested without further incident, and booked for Investigation of Robbery, with charges requested for Assault 4th degree.
#2021-115424/East Precinct/Third Watch:
On 05-11-2021 at 1800 hours, officers were assisting Bellevue PD with a planned event which called for destruction and violent acts in the city of Bellevue. Officers were re-locating to better assist the demonstration when a subject crossed the street against a solid red hand and pulled a bike officer from his bicycle. The officer fell from his moving bicycle causing pain to his knee. Additional officers on scene and the victim officer took the suspect into custody without reportable force. The incident was recorded by witnesses who provided video footage to the arresting officers. The suspect was identified and later booked into the King County Jail for investigation of Assault. A hazard report was completed.
