Police are investigating a Friday night shooting in Rainier Beach and a Saturday night shooting in South Lake Union that each left one person injured.
Friday at 10:46 p.m., multiple 911 callers reported hearing shots near the 4900 block of South Fletcher Street. Police responded and found a victim with gunshot wounds in the backyard of a residence. The 39-year-old male had non-life-threatening injuries to both legs and one of his hands. The Seattle Fire Department responded and transported the victim to the hospital.
Approximately 10 adults and several children were gathered at the home when the shooting occurred. Officers interviewed all the adults, but no one was able to give a description of the suspect or provide the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
Police recovered 11 shell casings from the scene and detectives will continue to investigate this incident.
Saturday at 9:21 p.m., police were called about a fight happening in the 300 block of 9th Avenue. While officers were en route, additional 911 callers reported shots being fired in the area.
When police arrived, the involved parties had fled the area. Officers found 21 shell casings at the scene, in addition to bullet damage to a nearby apartment. Thankfully, the apartment occupants were unharmed.
Witnesses said several males had been fighting in the street, and then two had gotten firearms from a nearby vehicle. The two suspects fired multiple rounds at a victim fleeing through an alley.
Nearly an hour later, a male arrived at a nearby hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his shoulder. Officers determined the 23-year-old victim had been in the alley when the suspects began shooting, but had not been involved in the initial altercation.
Detectives are investigating this incident.
