Police responded to a head-on collision Friday night, but only one driver was still at the scene. Officers later found the second driver at a local hospital and arrested him for DUI.
Friday evening at 9:43 p.m. multiple 911 callers reported a head-on collision near East Marginal Way South and Diagonal Avenue South.
The Seattle Fire Department responded and extracted the driver of a Mazda sedan from his vehicle. Medics transferred the man to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition but with significant injuries.
According to witnesses, the driver of the other involved car – an Infinity sedan – had been extracted from his car by civilians and taken from the scene in an uninvolved personal vehicle before emergency personnel arrived. Police later learned the man’s friends had been following in a separate car, and they took him to a hospital after witnessing the accident. The Infinity driver also suffered significant injuries and was eventually transferred to HMC.
Witnesses told police the driver of the Infinity had been travelling northbound on East Marginal Way. He drove his car over the dividing median curb and then into oncoming traffic, colliding with the other vehicle. The Infinity driver was placed under arrest at HMC for investigation of DUI.
