Police arrested a 32-year-old woman Monday after she pepper-sprayed a woman and her child in an elevator at the Pike Place Market.
Police responded to a report of an assault at Pike Place around 4:30 pm Monday. Officers arrived within two minutes and immediately found the suspect pushing a stroller containing a bottle of bleach, and carrying a can of pepper spray. The officers took the suspect into custody without further incident.
Seattle Fire Department medics treated the victims for exposure to pepper spray at the scene.
The victim told police that she had been in an elevator with the suspect when she heard the woman swearing to herself. The victim said that she asked the woman if everything was ok when the suspect pulled out a can of pepper spray and discharged it at the victim and her child.
The suspect told officers that she sprayed the victims because she is “in a high-risk category” and very concerned about the “Delta variant” of COVID-19.
Police booked the woman into King County Jail for assault and assault of a child.
