#2021-193567/South Precinct/First Watch:
On 07-29-2021 at 0740 hours, officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at QFC, located at 2707 Rainier Ave S. The suspect threatened to stab employees and stole two cases of beer. Officers flooded the area and began an area search. Officers located a subject matching the description of the suspect on the light rail platform and observed him walking away from two cases of beer. Officers followed the suspect and attempted to catch up with him. The suspect fled on foot and was observed running towards S McClellan St. Officers pursued the suspect on foot, keeping eyes on him, while another officer responded to the victim location. As the suspect was running up hill, he became winded, and sat down in the grass, on the southside of S McClellan St in the 2500 block. Officers closed the distance on the suspect and kept eyes on him until the victim was transported to the scene and gave a positive identification, establishing probable cause. K-9 was also on scene and ready to deploy if needed. As officers approached the suspect, he produced a 4-inch knife, and discarded the knife as officers approached. The suspect was arrested and booked for investigation of robbery. I screened the incident with Robbery Sergeant, and he advised the robbery unit would conduct an interview with the suspect.
#2021-193935/North Precinct/Second Watch:
On 07-29-2021 at 1305 hours in the 9500 block of Fremont Av N, a man carrying a bag was accosted by two men who pulled up alongside him and made comments about his bag using a homophobic slur. When the man asked if they were talking to him, they repeated the slur. Puzzled by their statement, the man again asked who it was they were talking to. One of the two men inside the vehicle was then said to have gotten out of the vehicle and attacked the victim by punching him in the head and face with closed fists, resulting in the victim briefly losing consciousness and suffering small lacerations to his head and elbow. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital via AMR. An area check for the suspects was negative, and the victim wasn’t able to provide a more detailed description. The victim said that the suspects were complete strangers and that he did not feel specifically targeted, but that the attack was random.
#2021-193922/West Precinct/Second Watch:
On 07-29-2021 at 1335 hours, officers were dispatched to the 2600 block of W Smith St for the report of a shooting. According to witnesses, there were several subjects hanging near the park when an unknown male pointed a gun at the victim and shot him in the chest. The victim them ran to his car and drove to a nearby restaurant to ask for directions to the nearest hospital. The victim was then transferred to another bystander’s vehicle and driven to a Ballard area hospital. He was then transported to Harborview Medical Center. The victim was uncooperative with officers and refused to provide any information. Evidence of a shooting was recovered at the scene. The victim’s vehicle was impounded to the processing room. Gun Violence Reduction Unit and Homicide were notified.
#2021-194090/North Precinct/Second Watch:
On 07-29-2021 at 1631 hours, a suspect was observed throwing rocks off the overpass at Ne 50 St and I-5. Several cars had to swerve out of the way to avoid the rocks. Officers arrived and detained a male matching the description given. Two witnesses responded to the scene and positively identified the suspect. The suspect was taken into custody and booked into King County Jail.
#2021-194436/East Precinct/Second Watch:
On 07-29-2021 at 2250 hours, officers responded to an arson where a fire marshal had arrived and determined the source of a fire to be arson. A portable toilet was against and underneath an occupied building under construction. An unknown person ignited the toilet causing $10k+ in damage to the building and fully destroyed the toilet. No suspects or witnesses were located. The SPD’s Arson Bomb Squad screened the incident.
