#2021-209333/North Precinct/First Watch:
On 08-13-2021 at 0056 hours, a victim was sitting inside their tent inside Ballard Commons Park when a suspect fired one .22 caliber round into the tent. The bullet grazed the victim in the head. Seattle Fire responded and transported victim to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. Evidence of a shooting was recovered. K-9 responded but was unable to obtain a good track. Suspect and firearm still outstanding.
#2021-209337/North Precinct/First Watch:
On 08-13-2021 at 0104 hours, officers responded to a missing person who had failed to return after going out on Lake Washington aboard a paddleboard. Harbor Patrol and USCG air and water units searched using FLIR and Radar. The missing person’s neighborhood was also searched. The paddleboard owned by the victim was located by Harbor Patrol on Lake Washington and the search for the victim is on-going. Incident was screened with homicide unit.
#2021-209367/South Precinct/Third Watch:
On 08-13-2021 at 0208 hours, a suspect entered a Shell station and attempted to purchase several items. After providing the clerk with only a small amount of change, and then having his credit card declined, the suspect exited the store and went outside to his vehicle. Two females then exited the suspect’s vehicle and went into the store and stole several items. The clerk went after the females and demanded they return the stolen items. At that time, the original suspect exited his vehicle and pointed a firearm at the clerk. Fearing for his life, the clerk went back inside and called police. The suspects then fled in the vehicle northbound from the Shell station. Officers did not locate the suspects.
#2021-209427/South Precinct/First Watch:
On 08-13-2021 at 0530 hours, an officer on viewed a vehicle partially in the roadway with a driver asleep at the wheel. Officers employed the pinning technique with two Patrol units. Another officer provided cover from the driver side of the suspect vehicle. The technique was successful; even though the subject attempted to drive the vehicle it was immobilized. Officers were able to open the driver door and remove suspect from the vehicle. Suspect had a bb gun resembling a semi-auto pistol in the vehicle. This suspect is a possible suspect in two incidents from 2020 where South SPD patrol units were rammed, and one officer injured trying to capture the suspect.
#2021-209557/West Precinct/First Watch:
On 08-13-2021 at 0819 hours, officers responded to a report of an assault at the Morrison. While the suspect was assaulting a resident, a staff member tried to intervene and was threatened with a pipe wrench. Suspect retreated to his room and barricaded the door. Officers, Hostage Negotiation Team, SWAT, K-9, Crisis Response Team and Seattle Fire responded. Suspect was eventually taken into custody and booked into King County Jail.
#2021-209761/West Precinct/Second Watch:
On 08-13-2021 at 1228 hours, staff at a low-income housing facility reported a person living outside had been threatening to assault staff. Staff said he has a history of threatening them and others. One specific victim complained that the suspect, both today and in the previous events, has threatened to assault him and uses slurs based on the victim’s perceived sexual orientation while doing so. The victim is afraid for his safety and thinks he is being targeted specifically because of his perceived orientation. Officers arrested the suspect at the scene. He was extremely belligerent and thrashed uncontrollably inside a police vehicle. Due to apparent medical issues, he was taken directly to Harborview Medical Center for treatment pending discharge and booking into King County Jail for Investigation of Hate Crime.
#2021-210183/East Precinct/Third Watch:
On 08-13-2021 at 2010 hours, officers responded to a report of a shooting at S Charles St and Hiawatha Pl S. Officers arrived to find one juvenile male victim with gunshot wounds to his legs. Officers rendered medical aid until relieved by Seattle Fire. The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers determined there was a disturbance in and around a white Chevy sedan parked at this intersection. At some point during this disturbance, multiple rounds were fired. In addition to the victim being shot, the Chevy sedan was struck multiple times, causing the rear window to shatter. The Chevy sedan then fled the scene northbound but was later located (unoccupied) in the 500 block of 22nd Ave. Gun Violence Reduction Unit (GVRU) Detectives responded and processed the scene. Evidence of a shooting was recovered at the scene. Additional evidence was observed inside the Chevy sedan, which was impounded pending service of a search warrant. K9 responded and tracked for additional evidence, with negative results. GVRU will handle follow up responsibilities.
#2021-210204/South Precinct/Third Watch:
On 08-13-2021 at 2028 hours, a suspect with a knife tried to enter the Recovery Cafe SODO. Staff locked the door and told him he’s not allowed inside. The suspect picked up a large rock and shattered the front door (glass). The suspect also used his knife and pried the front door open. The suspect was able to force his way into the building causing staff members to flee for their own safety. There were still many clients inside the building, and they were unable to leave. Arriving officers recognized that the suspect has access to many victims, therefore officers formed a contact team and move in. The suspect (still holding the knife) exited the building and refused to drop the knife. Hostage Negotiation Team established communication with the suspect. An officer fired two less-lethal 40mm rounds at the suspect but both rounds were not effective. The suspect (holding the knife) started running into traffic and onto another property. Containment had to move with the suspect so he wouldn’t get hit by a vehicle and to keep bystanders away. After a short jog, the suspect dropped the knife and gave up. The suspect was arrested for Investigation of Burglary, Malicious Mischief, Weapons violation. He was declined at King County Jail because of a higher-than-normal heart rate and was sent to Harborview Medical Center. He will be book into KCJ after medical.
#2021-210279/West Precinct/Third Watch:
On 08-13-2021 at 2140 hours, officers responded to a “Help the Officer” in the vicinity of 3rd Ave and Stewart St. During the investigation it was determined a Washington State Patrol Trooper working off duty had been assaulted when he attempted to contact a suspect for spray painting a nearby building. During the incident, the suspect struck the Trooper in the head with the pain can, causing a significant laceration to the top of his head. Said injury later required four staples at the hospital. Suspect was booked into King County Jail for Investigation of Assault. His girlfriend, who was on scene at the time, attempted to obstruct the investigation and subsequent arrest. She was detained in handcuffs and made a complaint of pain during the process. Type I Use of Force submitted.
