Police are investigating after a Beacon Hill man shot a woman early Wednesday after finding several people in his yard.
Just before 7:30 AM, the man and his wife awoke to find three people in the yard of their home in the 2100 block of Beacon Avenue South.
The couple, who have two houses on their property—one residential, one used for storage—had been burglarized several days earlier.
The female resident called 911 while the male resident armed himself with a gun and contacted the two men and woman in his yard. He told police he fired his weapon after one of the suspects approached him while carrying a handsaw.
Officers arrived and found the 53-year-old female suspect had an apparent gunshot wound to the abdomen. She was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. Police also arrested a 59-year-old man at the scene.
The victims reported a possible third suspect, who had fled the scene on foot. Several hours after the incident, a man with a gunshot wound walked into a Ballard hospital. Police are investigating whether he has a connection to the Beacon Hill incident.
The investigation in this incident is ongoing and details should be considered preliminary.
