#2021-327559/West Precinct/First Watch:
On 12-12-2021 at 0251 hours, a DUI driver collided with a light pole at Elliott W / W Garfield at a high rate of speed. The force of the collision completely sheared the pole off at the base. The pole had approximately 50 wires and cables attached to it at this major intersection. City light, SDOT, and Metro all arrived to assess damages. The vehicle came to rest against another pole and the damage caused several wires and lights to hang low. SDOT estimates the closure will last at least 12 hours from time of collision (approximately 0251 hours). The driver was arrested for DUI after Seattle Fire medically cleared him.
#2021-327965/Southwest Precinct/Second Watch:
On 12-12-2021 at 1526 hours, officers responded to the 2900 block of SW Avalon WY regarding an assault call. Upon arrival, the victim advised he was waiting near a service window to receive his medications when a suspect closed fist punched him in the face. As the suspect was walking away, he called the victim a racial slur. The victim said the attack was unprovoked. The punch caused pain to the victim’s face and right shoulder. The victim was transported via AMR for shoulder and head pain. When the suspect was read his Miranda, he mentioned that he “punched two guys in the face today” and referred to their race. The suspect was booked into King County Jail for Investigation of Hate Crime Offence. #2021-328290/South Precinct/Third Watch: On 12-12-2021 at 2329 hours, a suspect, armed with a handgun, entered the 76 gas station located at 6230 Rainier Av S and stole the cash drawer from the cash register, then fled on foot. Patrol set up containment and K9 conducted a track. The suspect was not located. Robbery was notified.
