A volley of gunfire in a south Seattle greenbelt on Wednesday led police to arrest a man after they found him using a stolen gun, and a tree, for target practice.
Around 1:45 PM, officers received reports of gunfire in the 9100 block of Spear Place South.
Police arrived and found a man in an encampment in a wooded area, where he had set up a makeshift shooting range.
The 44-year-old suspect told police he’d been shooting at a tree and, indeed, officers found a tree with several bullet holes in its trunk.
Police found the suspect’s gun had previously been stolen in Marysville and he is a convicted felon, unable to legally possess firearms. Officers booked the man into the King County Jail.
