Detectives Investigating Central District Fatal Shooting

Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed in the Central District Sunday evening.

At 7:40p.m., police responded to the 1400 block of 24th Avenue for reports of a shooting. Police responded and found a 36-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Officers and Seattle Fire Department Medics attempted life-saving measures, but the man was declared deceased at the scene.

As additional officers arrived, they spotted a possible suspect vehicle fleeing the scene. Officers pursued the suspect for several blocks until he crashed near 19th Avenue and East Cherry Street, where police took him into custody.

According to witnesses, the suspect and victim were involved in a disturbance prior to the shooting.

SPD’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit responded to process the scene, and Homicide Detectives are conducting interviews with the involved parties.
