On 01-24-2022 at 1709 hours, multiple callers reported an assault in progress in the parking lot at the northeast corner of 15th NE/NE 45th St., describing multiple male suspects beating a man they accused of stealing something. The victim was reportedly knocked down and repeatedly kicked. The suspects continued assaulting him even though he was down and barely moving. The suspects fled and the victim walked up the exterior stairs of the adjacent shelter facility. The first officer to arrive saw the victim fall from the stairs and land face down on the asphalt. Seattle Fire responded and transported the unconscious victim to Harborview Medical Center for facial injuries. At 1744 hours, while still investigating that scene, we were alerted to another assault that had just occurred two blocks away, potentially involving the same suspects. Residents of a sorority in the 4500 blk of 18th NE were accosted by suspects in a car on NE 45th St. The suspects got out and tased one of the female victims before putting her in a chokehold and punching her in the face. Nearby fraternity residents and others came out to see what was happening, so the suspects fled n/b in the alley in their car. The victim was evaluated by Seattle Fire for minor injuries but did not request further treatment. Although the timing and location of the two assaults was in very close proximity, it was not certain the two seemingly random assaults actually involved the same suspects. The oncoming Watch Commander was briefed, with a request to have the emphasis units focus on the U-District tonight.
