#2022-159859/South Precinct/Second Watch:

On 06-21-2022, sometime after midnight, three suspects committed an armed, home invasion robbery of a residence in the 4800 Block of Columbia DR S. Three males followed an occupant of the residence to his home. The victims thought the suspects may have followed the resident home from a casino. This was not verified at the time of the report. Once the suspects and resident reached the home, the three suspects held the victim at gunpoint and forced their way into his home. The suspects pistol whipped one resident and punched another resident. The suspects stole approximately $1200 in cash and two cell phones. They attempted to grab a necklace off the neck of one victim but were not successful. There was a significant delay in reporting. The victims stated this was due to a language barrier, their phones being stolen, and misunderstanding about when to call 911. The victims called 911 after contacting a relative, who instructed them to do so. The victims stated they believed they were targeted because of their race. They stated community members have warned them of recent home invasion robbers and burglars targeting families in their neighborhood. Fire responded and treated the victims’ injuries. Officers canvassed the neighborhood for evidence and witnesses. This incident was screened with the Robbery Unit and Lt.

On 06-21-2022 at 0345 hours, several calls came in reporting 8-9 shots fired around the 24 Ave S / S Hill St area. A bit later a call came in regarding a vehicle collision in the same area. All of first watch responded to the area. A victim and his truck located at 24 & Walker had struck a light pole sheering it off and the live wires down. The victim truck had 2 bullet holes in the tail gate. Apparently, an unknown person in a dark compact car stopped, peered into the truck, and began to bang on the window. Victim awakened and – fearing harm – started the truck and drove away with his sunshade in the windshield. Shots rang out so he accelerated and stopped at 24 & Walker when he impacted the light pole. Area check for suspect was negative. Evidence of a shooting was collected. Two blocks of S Walker St closed for an extended period of time for pole replacement.
