Police Arrest Security Guard in Capitol Hill After He Fights, Stabs Trespasser

Police arrested a security guard Monday afternoon in Capitol Hill for fighting with and stabbing a man after asking him to leave private property.

At 2:34 p.m., multiple 911 callers reported a security guard had stabbed a man in the 1600 block of Broadway. Responding officers found a 25-year-old male victim with a stab wound near his collarbone. Seattle Fire Department medics responded to treat the man, and he was transported in stable condition via private ambulance to Harborview Medical Center.

Through their investigation, officers learned the security guard had initially confronted the victim about drinking and trespassing on private property outside a business. Police determined the security guard escalated the confrontation to a physical fight rather than disengaging with the victim, and he then seriously escalated the fight by stabbing the victim.

When police spoke with the suspect, he denied stabbing the victim or having a knife at all. However, officers found the knife in a break room, hidden under a bag of chips.

Officers arrested the 57-year old man and booked him into King County Jail for assault.
