#2022-201574/East Precinct/First Watch:
On 08-02-2022 at 0645 hours, a subject was dropped off at a local hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his head. The subject did not speak to officers, and it is unknown where or when the incident occurred. At the time of the investigation, the identity of the subject is unknown. The subject is expected to survive. GRVU screened the incident.
#2022-201898/Southwest Precinct/Second Watch:
On 08-02-2022 at 1312 hours, a store manager called 911 requesting police assistance for a previous shoplifter who had returned and was causing a disturbance. Loss Prevention contacted the subject and requested he leave the store. The subject made racially biased comments and indicated he intended to fight with someone. Loss Prevention offered the subject food to de-escalate the subject while he was being escorted out of the store. During this time, the subject began randomly assaulting people, apparently based on their race, resulting in one person being strangled and four being assaulted by various means. The subject immediately cooperated when confronted by arriving police and was taken into custody without incident. After further investigation, the suspect was booked for Hate Crime and Assault 2 with additional charges requested for misdemeanor assaults.
#2022-201914/West Precinct/Second Watch:
On 08-02-2022 at 1327 hours, officers responded to an assault call in which a female suspect assaulted a DESC staff member. Upon investigation, it was determined the suspect began making racial slurs towards the victim and then punched the victim in the face once causing transitory pain. The suspect then continued to yell racial slurs at the victim. The victim stated he felt he was assaulted because of his race. The suspect has a history of making race-based discriminatory remarks towards DESC staff. Suspect was arrested for Hate Crime Offense and booked into KCJ.
#2022-202012/West Precinct/Second Watch:
On 08-02-2022 at 1507 hours, an officer working the 3rd Ave/Pine Street emphasis on-viewed a disturbance on the south-west corner of 3rd Ave/Pike Street. The officer witnessed a suspect deliver several brutal strikes to the head of the victim with a large metal pole. The victim fell to the floor and was unresponsive. The officer broadcasted the incident and several emphasis and patrol units responded to the scene. The suspect was apprehended without incident and the weapon was recovered. Officers also rendered aid to the victim until Seattle Fire arrived. The victim was transported to HMC and is currently in critical condition. Homicide notified.
#2022-202312/North Precinct/Third Watch:
On 08-02-2022 at 2040 hours, an intoxicated suspect threw water on a man and his dog at a bus stop. A juvenile female observed this and confronted the suspect, who responded by throwing water on her. A physical fight ensued between the suspect and juvenile female which was interrupted by multiple bystanders who beat up the suspect. The suspect yelled bias language about the juvenile victim as bystanders punched him. The intervening bystanders quickly left the area as officers arrived and detained the suspect. After an investigation, the suspect was arrested for Assault 4 and booked into KCJ. Incident screened and alert email sent to Bias Crime Coordinator.
#2022-202382/South Precinct/Third Watch:
On 08-02-2022 at 2214 hours, officers were dispatched to a shots call off Rainier Ave S. According to the call, 2 male suspects were shooting at each other. Officers arrived in the area and located evidence of a shooting on the sidewalk. A subject was detained, but without a good witness the subject was identified and released. No victims or property damage were located.
