Man Shot, Injured in Attempted Robbery in South Seattle

Detectives are investigating after a man was shot and injured during an attempted robbery in Columbia City on Monday.

Just before noon, a 911 caller reported a disturbance in a business in the 4400 block of Rainier Avenue South. Shortly after, another caller in the same area reported a man had been shot. Responding officers found a 56-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest and began first aid. Seattle Fire Department medics arrived shortly after and assumed care of the victim, eventually transporting him to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition.

Police learned the victim was an employee at the business where the disturbance was reported, and that a male suspect shot him during an attempted robbery.

Officers began searching for the suspect and called a K9 team to assist. The team started a track from the scene, but did not locate the man.

Robbery detectives responded to the scene and will continue to investigate this incident.
