Police recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested its driver late Tuesday in South Lake Union after officers spotted a man driving around with license plates for another vehicle, held on by tape.
Just before midnight on Tuesday, officers on patrol near Dexter Avenue and Roy Street saw the suspect driving a Nissan Maxima with mismatched, dubiously secured plates.
When officers tried to pull the car over, the driver sped away. Police found the vehicle nearby, parked in the 2100 block of Waverly Place North, and saw the driver get out of the car and run.
Officers caught the man, who struggled with officers and threw a set of keys in some nearby bushes during his arrest.
Police found the Nissan was reported stolen and discovered the keys the suspect had thrown had been modified through a technique commonly used by car thieves.
Officers booked the 55-year-old man into the King County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle and are requesting charges for obstruction, resisting arrest, and possession of vehicle theft tools.
