Forklift Operator Arrested After Fatal Collision on Aurora

A woman was killed Tuesday afternoon when a man operating a forklift caused a multi-vehicle collision on Aurora Avenue North.

At 3:27 p.m., multiple 911 callers reported a collision in the 9600 block of Aurora Avenue North involving a forklift, an SUV and a landscape truck.

The driver of the forklift apparently entered Aurora Avenue from the west side of the street and continued eastbound until he collided with the southbound SUV, causing the SUV to collide with the northbound landscape truck.

Seattle Fire Department medics took the two occupants of the SUV to Harborview Medical Center. The approximately 25-year-old female passenger was in critical condition at the time of transport, and she later died from her injuries at the hospital. The 27-year-old male driver was transported in serious condition.

The 30-year-old driver of the landscape truck was in stable condition when he was transported to Harborview Medical Center via private ambulance.

The man operating the forklift was arrested at the scene and did not require transport to a hospital. Officers suspected he was under the influence of intoxicants, so they took him to the North Precinct to be evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert.

Police will book the suspect into King County Jail for vehicular homicide and Traffic Collision Investigation Squad Detectives will continue to investigate this incident.
