Arson Felony Harassment Suspect Arrested After Setting Mattress on Fire

Seattle Police responded to a report of a man setting a mattress on fire before leaving his hotel room in Downtown Seattle Tuesday evening in the 70 block of Yesler Way.

Police arrived at approximately 08:00 p.m. and contacted an employee of the hotel business that checked in the man. It was unknown to the employee why the man started the fire but Seattle Fire Department responded and extinguished it. The 26-year-old male suspect left the location as soon as the fire started.

There was significant damage totaling approximately $10,000 to the property, but no one reported any injuries.

After obtaining a description of the suspect, police recognized the man and his involvement in previous incidents with a woman where he threatened to burn down her apartment.

Officers contacted the 28-year-old female victim and learned she had called earlier about the suspect being outside her apartment building.

Police searched for the suspect and located him in front of the victim’s apartment building. Officers arrested the suspect for arson and felony harassment. He was later booked into King County Jail.
