#2023-057339/West Precinct/First Watch:
On 03-01-2023 at 0821 hours, officers responded to a disturbance at the Compass Center where a suspect threatened to shoot staff. Officers used de-escalation to encourage the suspect to walk away, but he refused and punched an officer. Level I Use of Force. Screened with FIT. Suspect booked into KCJ for Assault 3. The officer sustained minor swelling and bruising to his face.
#2023-058085/East Precinct/Third Watch:
At 2149 hours, a suspect was observed by a witness lighting a shoe box on fire and placing this lit shoe box inside an occupied tent. The fire spread across the tent and onto a business that was below an occupied apartment building. The lone occupant of the tent suffered minor burns and had to be rescued by witnesses as she was unable to escape the tent on her own due to obstacles. The occupant refused medical attention or services offered by SPD. The suspect was located and arrested by patrol officers a few blocks away and positively identified by witnesses. The tent was a loss and the business suffered smoke and water damage as a result of the fire. SPD’s ABS will conduct the follow up investigation.
