Man, Officer Assaulted During Gas Works Park Disturbance Investigation

A man and a Seattle Police officer were assaulted during a disturbance investigation at Gas Works Park Wednesday afternoon.

Just before 2:30 p.m., police were flagged down about a woman causing a disturbance and harassing people. As officers entered the park, multiple people pointed toward a woman yelling nearby while other parkgoers were leaving to avoid her.

Police contacted a man who said he had been assaulted by the woman after she tried to take his child from a swing. He told officers the woman hit him in the face when he went to intervene, then chased him around the park. A person who witnessed the assault on the man also spoke with police.

When officers approached the woman to contact her about her behavior, she became aggressive and yelled obscenities at them. The woman swung her hand toward one officer’s face, then struck the other officer in the arm and face. Police took her into custody after a brief struggle.

The officer who was struck was evaluated by Seattle Fire, while the father of the child declined medical assistance.

Police booked the 36-year-old woman into the King County Jail for investigation of felony and misdemeanor assault.
