Alert Homeowner and Stolen Bicycle Lead to Queen Anne Burglary Arrest

A man is in custody after attempting to enter several occupied homes in a Queen Anne neighborhood Friday morning.

Around 9:30 a.m., a homeowner called 911 after a man tried to enter their garage in the 2100 block of 5th Avenue North, then watched as he attempted to get into a neighbor’s garage. As West Precinct officers were responding, the homeowner updated 911 and said the suspect was leaving on a bicycle stolen from the neighbor’s garage.

The description provided by the homeowner and witnesses – including a distinct yellow child carrier attached to the stolen bicycle – led officers to spot the suspect in the area of 9th Avenue and Denny Way.

The suspect refused commands from police and ran but was taken into custody a short distance away.

Based on evidence from the scene and information provided by witnesses, officers determined the suspect attempted to burglarize two garages before entering the third garage and stealing the bicycle.

Police returned the stolen bicycle and child carrier to its owner who positively identified it as being theirs.

The 28-year-old suspect was booked into the King County Jail on investigation of attempted burglary and residential burglary. Officers also learned he was wanted for an outstanding residential burglary warrant.
