Police are investigating a collision that killed the driver in the Judkins Park neighborhood Friday.
Just after 4:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to reports of a single car collision in the 2300 block of South Judkins Street. The driver, a 57-year-old female, was the only occupant and pronounced deceased at the scene.
Based on witness statements, it appears the driver tried to beat a traffic signal about to turn red and overcorrected, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and impact a tree.
Southbound traffic was shut down while detectives with the SPD Traffic Collision Investigation Squad processed the scene.
