Just before 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, police received a call about a man drowning in South Lake Union within the 800 block of Terry Avenue North. Prior to police arrival, the man was pulled onto community members’ paddleboards while another bystander began life saving measures.
Harbor Patrol arrived within minutes and notified Seattle Fire to meet at a nearby beach location. The male victim was taken to the beach where lifesaving aid continued.
The 32-year-old man regained signs of life as Seattle Fire arrived to provide the continuance of medical aid.
Police learned the man and a fellow diver were conducting practice dives when he started having complications. During the emergent circumstances, the man removed his diving equipment.
Early Thursday morning, Harbor Patrol returned to the location and dove to retrieve the diver’s equipment.
SPD wants to give a huge thank you to the community members whose heroism helped save a man’s life.
