Felony Eluding Warrant Suspect Leads to Foot Chase in Capitol Hill

On Saturday, Sept. 23rd at approximately 2:00 a.m., police arrested a man who had an outstanding warrant for eluding in Capitol Hill.

East Precinct officers observed the suspect as he drove a silver Yamaha motorcycle in the wrong direction on East Pike Street. This was a concern due to the area being crowded with traffic and patrons of the nearby businesses. The suspect driver was seen violating numerous traffic laws as he continued traveling northbound on 11th Avenue.

In one instance, the suspect driver nearly hit a pedestrian, where the pedestrian stopped for the motorcyclist to avoid being struck.

Police attempted a traffic stop of the motorcyclist, but he eluded officers and was last seen travelling westbound on East Pine Street.

Soon after, SPD received information that the motorcyclist was possibly located in the 1500 block of Broadway. Officers arrived at a gas station in the area and found the motorcycle parked and the male suspect a few feet away.

When officers contacted the suspect, he ran away eastbound on East Pike Street. Police pursued him on foot and found him under a parked vehicle near a restaurant in the 1000 block of East Pike Street.

The 25-year-old male suspect resisted officers as they placed him under arrest. As officers gained control of the suspect, a large crowd began to surround them.

More resources responded to the location to assist with the disturbances not related to the arrest of the eluding suspect.

SPD booked the man into King County Jail not only for assault but also for his outstanding felony warrant and eluding police. Additional charges were requested for driving under the influence, reckless driving, obstruction, and resisting arrest.
