Mailed Suspicious Packages Found at Synagogues in City of Seattle

Police responded to two locations in the South Precinct area where a report of a suspicious package arrived via mail.

The two locations were the 6500 block of 52nd Avenue South around 4:00 p.m. and the second location in the 5400 block of Wilson Avenue South at about 5:30 p.m.

SFD responded to the first location and evaluated the white powdery substance in the envelope and found it to be not hazardous. The second location received a similar package and it is believed to be non-hazardous as well.

SPD Arson Bomb Squad detectives secured the second suspicious package and will be submitting it into evidence.

There have been no reports of injury at this time or property damage at the locations.

While investigating the circumstances at the locations in the South Precinct area, a third 911 call about a mailed suspicious package was reported in the 4700 block of 17th Avenue Northeast at approximately 6:30p.m. There was no white powdery substance within the contents of this package.

SPD Arson Bomb Squad detectives will be leading the investigation of these cases.
