Seattle Police arrested a 44-year-old male suspect for possession of a stolen vehicle, eluding, and driving while under the influence in the Central District Tuesday night.
Shortly after 5:30 p.m., an East Precinct patrol officer located a vehicle with a stolen license plate stopped at the intersection of 12th Avenue South and South Weller Street. When the officer initiated a traffic stop, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed.
Shortly after refusing to stop, the driver collided with a United States Postal Service (USPS) truck at the intersection of 20th Avenue and East Yesler Way. The suspect vehicle then collided into a light post. The USPS truck driver was uninjured.
Witnesses called 911 and stated the suspect driver fled from the scene. Based on the description provided, officers were able to locate the suspect a short distance away.
The suspect was arrested and booked into King County jail.
