Seattle Police received a call from a mother reporting a known man was at her daughter’s work threatening to kill her early Wednesday evening.
Police arrived at the business in the Queen Anne neighborhood around 8:30 p.m. The 22-year-old female victim reported the suspect entered her workplace a couple times where he demanded she close the store because she needed to leave with him.
During this time, the suspect obtained the victim’s cell phone and made threats to kill her if she did not follow through with his demands. The victim observed the suspect was in possession of a firearm. After these demands were made, the suspect left to sit in his vehicle parked near the business.
Prior to contacting the 24-year-old male suspect, officers learned the suspect was also in violation of a court order where it stated he was to have no contact with the victim.
As officers approached the suspect vehicle, it fled from the scene. Officers pursued the vehicle and observed it striking multiple community member cars as it continued to elude police.
The pursuit continued from Queen Anne onto the I5 southbound interstate where it ended due to the suspect vehicle becoming inoperable from the previous collisions and colliding with the shoulder on the interstate. However, the suspect driver ran from his vehicle jumping over the barricade onto the I5 northbound lanes.
A foot pursuit began after the suspect. As officers advanced towards the suspect, a gunshot went off and the suspect was observed falling to the ground.
Officers provided the suspect medical aid for his self-inflicted life-threatening gunshot wound at the scene. The suspect was transported to Harborview Medical Center for further treatment.
Police recovered the firearm and impounded the suspect vehicle for evidence. The victim was not injured during the incident and her phone was recovered.
Once medically cleared, the male suspect will be booked into King County Jail for felony harassment, robbery, eluding, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
