Police received a 911 call about a hit and run collision where an involved vehicle ended up in flames within a building in the Rainier Valley Sunday evening.
Around 9:00 p.m., officers arrived near the intersection of Martin Luther King Junior Way South and Merton Way South. Police located two victim vehicles involved in the collision along with the suspect vehicle engulfed in flames inside a building near the 9400 block of Martin Luther King Junior Way South.
It was reported the suspect vehicle was traveling southbound on MLK JR WY S when it collided with two vehicles stopped at the traffic light at the intersection at Merton Way South. After the collision, the suspect vehicle attempted to flee from the location by reversing northbound in the southbound lanes of travel.
The suspect driver then backed into a building causing a fire. Seattle Fire responded and pulled the vehicle out from within the building to assist in extinguishing the flames.
The 26-year-old male passenger of the suspect vehicle was able to exit from the vehicle, but the 34-year-old male driver was trapped and unable to get out of the vehicle. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The two other adult drivers of the two victim vehicles were not injured from the collision.
King County Medical Examiner responded to take responsibility of the deceased male. Their office will provide further information as to the manner and cause of death of the deceased.
