Seattle police have arrested a 49-year-old man after he reportedly assaulted an unhoused man in the University District on Feb. 1.
Officers were called to the 4500 block of University Way Northeast at about 2 p.m. as the suspect was making anti-unhoused statements during the assault near a bus stop.
The 26-year-old victim said the suspect put his arm around his neck and shoulder and then punched him in the face several times. The victim was able to get free and run from the suspect, who then pulled out a bullwhip, appearing to taunt the victim.
The suspect ran from the area.
Police saw the victim had a red face and bloody nose, but he refused medical care.
Investigators found the suspect shortly after the attack and he was arrested. Officers in the area know the suspect due to a history of assaults, including cases where a bullwhip was used. The suspect is booked in the King County Jail for assault.
