Video: Police Arrest Three Teenage Attempted Carjacking Suspects After Pursuit

On December 19, 2023, Seattle police officers arrested three juvenile suspects who attempted to carjack three separate victims and eluded officers in a stolen vehicle. The pursuit started in the Alki neighborhood and ended in South Seattle.

Shortly before 9:00 p.m., dispatch received several calls about three attempted carjackings and a robbery. The suspects were described as three juvenile males in a gray SUV.

The first attempted carjacking occurred in the 2800 block of Alki Avenue Southwest. A 38-year-old man unlocked his vehicle and while opening the car door, the suspects drove up in an SUV. Two male suspects exited the car and approached the victim. One suspect made a threat that he had a gun and demanded the man’s car. The victim locked his vehicle and ran to a nearby business to escape. The suspects fled the scene shortly after.

A short time later, the same suspects attempted to carjack a 37-year-old female on 59th Avenue Southwest. The woman was sitting in her car and one of the suspects knocked on the window and showed a gun. The suspects told the victim to get out of her car. She refused and drove to a safe location to call 911.

Police arrived at Beach Drive Southwest to a reported robbery and attempted carjacking of a 52-year-old female and a male. During the incident, two cell phones and keys were stolen by the suspects. The female victim pointed at a gray Hyundai to police. The suspect’s car was identified, and a patrol car was able to get behind the vehicle as it recklessly sped away.

Officers pursued the suspects eastbound onto the West Seattle Bridge. Police on the westbound side of the bridge were able to successfully deploy spike strips to deflate the tires of the SUV. The car continued onto southbound Interstate Highway 5 and came to a stop at South Corgiat Drive and Ursula Place South.

The three juveniles exited and fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, two suspects were apprehended and with the assistance of King County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, the third suspect was located and taken into custody.

The Seattle Fire Department arrived and medically evaluated the juveniles.

Police contacted the registered owner of the Hyundai and learned the vehicle was stolen.

The two 14-year-old males and one 16-year-old male were arrested for investigation of robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle and attempting to elude police. They were booked into Judge Patricia H. Clark Children and family Justice Center.
