Seattle Police arrested a juvenile and recovered two handguns after responding to nearby gunfire in the Rainier Valley last month.
On May 11th at 2:26 a.m., patrol officers were processing a shooting scene when they heard additional shots right next to them in the 9000 block of Seward Park Avenue South.
Officers in the area of the gunfire saw two figures running between the buildings. After a brief search, police located and detained both of them.
One of the suspects was in possession of a semi-automatic handgun with an extended magazine and a “switch” which allows for automatic firing. This weapon was also previously reported stolen.
The 17-year-old male was arrested for Possessing Stolen Firearm and Use of Firearm by Minor. He was booked into the Judge Patrica H. Clark Children & Family Justice Cener.
Officers located a second semi-automatic handgun in the nearby bushes and seized it as evidence. The second suspect, an 18-year-old male, was investigated and released.
Detectives with the Gun Violence Reduction Unit have been assigned to this case. Additional charges may follow as they complete their investigation.
