#2024-221166/South Precinct/First Watch:
At 0659 hours, a WSP trooper attempted to make a traffic stop on a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee on the Boeing Access Road. The driver of the vehicle fled the traffic stop NB on Airport Way S. The trooper did not purse but broadcast that the vehicle was fleeing. Another WSP trooper heard the radio traffic and exited SB I-5 at Swift Albro to do an area check for the fleeing vehicle. The WSP Trooper who exited SB I-5 located the vehicle in the Georgetown Area SB on Airport Way S. The trooper pulled up to stop the vehicle, and the 31-year-old female driver fled SB, striking the right fender of the WSP trooper’s vehicle. The trooper pursued the vehicle but, at some point, terminated the pursuit. Shortly thereafter, the driver of the Jeep entered the NB lanes of travel on Airport Way S and lost control of the vehicle, eventually rolling it. The WSP trooper whose vehicle was struck by the fleeing vehicle saw a dust cloud in the distance and continued to that location. The WSP trooper arrested the driver, who was attempting to flee the scene. The female passenger (likely in her 50’s) was ejected and was declared deceased. TCIS responded to complete an on-scene investigation. The driver was believed to be impaired by drugs, and a DRE completed a blood draw after applying for a search warrant. The driver is expected to be booked into KCJ for 2nd Degree Murder pending medical release from the HMC.
