Seattle Police are investigating a smash and grab burglary in the Green Lake neighborhood Thursday morning.
On August 22nd at 5:35 a.m., patrol officers responded to reports of a commercial burglary in the 400 block of Northeast 71st Street. When they arrived, police discovered a section of the front wall of the business torn away.
Police determined that two male suspects in coveralls and masks smashed through the glass door and lassoed a tether and chain around the safe in order to steal it.
While doing so, they ripped the safe out, tore the metal security gate off the business, and shattered the front walls of glass leaving destruction and debris. They were unsuccessful in stealing the safe.
The suspects left the area in two vehicles before officers arrived.
They fled westbound and collided into fourteen other vehicles, damaging them. The on-scene supervisor estimated the suspects caused thousands of dollars’ worth or damages.
Detectives with the General investigations Unit will be assigned to this case.
