Two Officers Injured, Suspect Arrested, Following Stolen Vehicle Recovery in Ballard

Two Seattle Police officers were injured while arresting a suspect during a stolen vehicle recovery in Ballard three weeks ago.

On August 6th at 1:30 p.m., patrol officers located an occupied stolen vehicle parked in front of a business in the 900 block of Northwest Ballard Way.

Police contacted the suspect to take place him under arrest. When he woke up, he disobeyed lawful commands and put the vehicle in reverse, throwing the officers backwards and onto the ground injuring both of them. 

Police pinned the car with a patrol vehicle as he continuously tried rev the engine and flee.

The suspect exited the vehicle fleeing on foot, he disobeyed lawful commands, and officers deployed a taser to apprehend him. He was arrested for multiple crimes including Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Eluding a Police Vehicle, two counts of felony Assault, Obstructing a Public Officer, Driving Under the Influence (DUI), and Sale/Delivery of Methamphetamine.

The suspect was transported to Harborview Medical Center while officers obtained a DUI search warrant. He was booked into King County Jail in lieu of $165,000 bail.

The male and female officers were treated on scene by the Seattle Fire Department and later at the hospital by medical staff. They were in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives with the Homicide & Assault Unit have taken lead on this case.
