Seattle Police Arrest Man in Crisis

At 10:54 a.m., Seattle police officers responded to reports of a 48-year-old man armed with a handgun in the stairwell of a building in the 1900 block of 1st Avenue. When officers arrived, the man was on the rooftop of the six-story Belltown building.

Police cordoned off the area for the safety of pedestrians and motorists, and the Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT) arrived on scene. An SPD K9 team also arrived.

The man surrendered to HNT without incident. A pellet gun was recovered at the scene. No injuries were reported.

The suspect was arrested for Tampering with a Fire Alarm, a Court Order Violation, and a $2,500 warrant for Driving While License Suspended, and Failure to Transfer Title Within 45 Days, issued by the King County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect also has multiple $5,000 warrants for his arrest out of Snohomish County which are extraditable from King County:

  • DV Malicious Mischief 3rd Degree, Resisting Arrest
  • Reckless Burning, Resisting Arrest
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Driving While License Suspended; Failure to Transfer Title

He was booked into the King County Jail.
