Police Arrest Eluding Suspect Armed with Knife Hiding in Lumen Field

On Feb. 5 at about 2 a.m. patrol officers saw a known warrant suspect walking with a bicycle near 3rd Avenue and Pike Street in Downtown Seattle.

The 49-year-old suspect had a felony warrant for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm; and misdemeanor warrants for False Reporting, Theft, Making False Statements, and Making/Possessing Motor Vehicle Theft Tools.

The suspect quickly left the area going south on 3rd Avenue. Police found him near 4th Avenue and South Jackson Street and attempted to arrest him, but he pedaled faster, fleeing from police westbound on South Jackson Street.

The suspect continued pedaling away from officers southbound towards Lumen Field Stadium after they exited their police vehicles and chased after him on foot. Shortly thereafter, the suspect dumped the bicycle near the northeast corner of the stadium and ran away on foot.

Lumen Field’s security notified police dispatch that the suspect was hiding between several barriers inside the stadium. The suspect purposefully swallowed fentanyl powder in front of officers when they found him.

He removed himself from the barriers and was arrested while armed with an illegal fixed-blade knife. The knife and bicycle were recovered by police as evidence.

The Seattle Fire Department arrived on scene and provided medical aid to the suspect for ingesting the narcotics. He was transferred to Harborview Medical Center (HMC) for evaluation.

The man was booked into the King County Jail once discharged from HMC.

Charges include Obstructing a Police Officer, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Furtively Carrying a Dangerous Weapon, and a $30K felony bench warrant for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

Detectives with the General Investigations Unit were assigned to this case.
