At 1702 hours, the Seattle Fire Department called for Police while on an apartment fire call. Officers responded and found that SFD was having a hazmat response for a possible drug lab at an apartment with an unrelated minor apartment fire. The fire was extinguished before Police arrived. SFD established unified command with SPD and the SFD hazmat unit determined there was no immediate danger to the building or the public. While rendering the scene safe the SFD used a chemical tester to check for hazardous/explosive materials and found the presence of cocaine. There also appeared to be drug manufacturing equipment present in the apartment. SPD controlled access to the scene and a search warrant was obtained to recover the suspected contraband from the apartment. At the time there were no occupants found at the apartment. Officers were in the process of recovering cocaine and illicit mushrooms from the apartment while servicing the search warrant when the resident of the apartment returned. The resident was placed under arrest for possession with intent to distribute narcotics. A total of 1046 grams of mushrooms were recovered along with a trace amount of cocaine. A grinder and cooking dish with cocaine residue was also entered into evidence.
