Multiple People Injured in Head-On Collision, DUI Driver Arrested for Vehicular Assault

Seattle police officers arrested a 22-year-old DUI driver for Vehicular Assault following a head-on collision in East Queen Anne this morning that left three people in critical condition.

At about 2:10 a.m., patrol officers responded to an injury collision in the 2500 block of Westlake Avenue North. The Seattle Fire Department (SFD) provided emergency medical treatment to all of the injured parties and vehicle extrication to those in need.

According to detectives in the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad, a white Acura sedan was seen racing another vehicle southbound on Westlake Avenue North. The Acura drove into the oncoming lanes of travel and struck a northbound Ford Explorer head on, in the 2500 block.

According to one of responding officers, six out of the eight people involved appeared to be injured and bleeding. All occupants of both vehicles were transported to Harborview Medical Center with varying degrees of injuries.

Three people appeared to be in critical condition, and all but two were in serious condition, according to SFD.

A Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) responded to the hospital and evaluated both drivers. The driver of the Acura was determined to be impaired, and the DRE collected blood evidence from him upon serving a DUI warrant signed by a judge. He was arrested for multiple counts of Vehicular Assault.

The roadway was closed for the duration of the rescue efforts and cleanup. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene.

TCIS detectives responded and processed the scene and have taken lead on this investigation.
