Seattle Police Complete Investigation Into Fatality Crash Involving 12-year-old Child

Update 4/24/25

The Seattle Police Department (SPD) completed its investigation into the tragic crash that killed a 12-year-old girl in the Central District last month.

On March 6, 2025, at about 12:40 p.m., patrol officers received reports of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian outside of Washington Middle School near the intersection of 20th Place South and South Weller Street.

Multiple students were walking on the sidewalk along 20th Place South when an unoccupied SUV rolled backwards towards them. The vehicle rolled onto the sidewalk, striking three students. Seattle Police and the Seattle Fire Department (SFD) responded and rendered aid to the students. SFD eventually pronounced one of the students deceased.

Detectives with the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad responded to investigate the collision. A Drug Recognition Expert evaluated the vehicle owner and determined she was not impaired.

During the investigation, SPD spoke with multiple people, including family, witnesses, school administrators, the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, the Seattle City Attorney’s Office, and the GMC Dealership, checking for any vehicle recalls on the SUV, a 2018 GMC Acadia.  Detectives found no open recalls for the vehicle.

Detectives worked with prosecutors for King County and Seattle and are unable to determine any applicable criminal charges at this time.

SPD sent this case to the Seattle Municipal Court and have issued these parking violations.

  • 11.72.055 – Class of vehicle
  • 11.72.160 – Fire hydrant
  • 11.70.040 – Parallel parking—Right-hand side
  • 11.70.140 – Stopping and securing car when parking

SPD’s senior leadership and Community Service Officers have met with the family of the deceased and offered available resources.
