A 21-year-old man was shot at a downtown Seattle hotel Saturday evening, March 8.
At 5:57 p.m., a dispatcher received reports of a shooting in the 1400 block of 6th Avenue. Officers arrived at the scene and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers provided first aid until Seattle Fire Department personnel arrived, and the man was transported to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition.
Witnesses stated that four individuals were in the hotel room at the time of the incident. A 23-year-old man was reportedly handling a firearm that he did not know was loaded, which discharged and struck the victim unintentionally.
Detectives from the Gun Violence Reduction Unit are investigating the circumstances leading up to the shooting. Officers recovered the firearm at the scene.
The suspect was arrested and booked into King County Jail on charges of assault and firearm-related offenses.
