As hundreds of street racers and spectators converged at different illegal street takeover events in the city on Saturday, Seattle police officers responded to disrupt the activity.
On April 19, Seattle police coordinated with other area law enforcement agencies to monitor potential street racing and takeover events. Officers believed racers may be meeting outside of the city and bringing the illegal activity into Seattle.
Several Seattle Police Department units collaborated to address the illegal street racing events as more than an estimated 200 people gathered near Lumen Field, Costco, Pier 55 and Home Depot in SoDo. Officers in the Community Response Group (CRG) and from the West Precinct flooded the area to disrupt the dangerous street racing activity.
Several vehicles were stopped for traffic violations.
Those involved in the street racing activity eventually left Seattle and moved on to other jurisdictions.
The Seattle Police Department is following up on these incidents intending to mail citations for street racing violations.
