Impaired Driver Arrested for Vehicular Assault After Three-Car Collision

Seattle police officers arrested a 26-year-old woman for causing a multi-vehicle collision and injuring a pedestrian while driving impaired Sunday night.

On May 11, at about 10:00 p.m. patrol officers responded to a three-car collision at Madison Street and 8th Avenue. Police found a 42-year-old pedestrian down on the sidewalk. They provided him medical aid until the Seattle Fire Department (SFD) arrived and continued treatment.

SFD transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center in serious, but stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

Police determined the suspect ran a red light while driving northbound on 8th Avenue entering the Madison Street intersection. She struck a car driving westbound which then struck a 42-year-old pedestrian on the sidewalk.

A third vehicle collided into the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect vehicle came to rest after hitting a light pole and an electrical box.

Officers evaluated the driver at the scene, and determined she was impaired. Police also found a large alcoholic beverage inside of her car.  Police arrested the suspect for Investigation of Vehicular Assault.

Due to the severity of the pedestrian’s injuries, a Drug Recognition Expert evaluated the suspect at the East Precinct and also found her to be impaired. A Washington State Trooper and certified phlebotomist performed a legal blood draw after a search warrant was approved by a judge.

Detectives in the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad responded to process the scene. Patrol officers impounded the suspect’s vehicle. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 911.
