Seattle police detectives are investigating after a 6-year-old girl was struck by a car in the Central District this afternoon.
At about 11:50 a.m., patrol officers responded to a vehicle collision into a pedestrian near Rainier Avenue South and South Charles Street. Due to street construction at the intersection, an off-duty Parking Enforcement Officer saw the crash and quickly provided medical treatment to the child.
The Seattle Fire Department (SFD) responded to the scene and continued treatment. SFD transported the girl to Harborview Medical Center with what were believed to be critical injuries at the time.
Police determined that an SUV was driving north on Rainier Avenue South approaching South Charles Street. At the same time, the girl and her mother were walking in the south crosswalk. The SUV struck the girl, throwing her in the air and onto the pavement.
The driver, an adult woman, cooperated with police and a Drug Recognition Expert responded to the scene to evaluate her. Officers found no signs of impairment, and she was not arrested.
Detectives in the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) responded to the scene. Before completing their initial investigation, they learned the girl had no significant injuries or broken bones.
If anyone has information regarding the collision, they are asked to call TCIS at 206-684-8923.
