Detectives Investigating Fatal Collision in Yesler Terrace

Seattle police detectives are investigating a fatal collision this morning in the Yesler Terrace neighborhood.

On June 10 at about 10:30 a.m., patrol officers responded to a report of a vehicle collision near Broadway and Alder Street. Police and the Seattle Fire Department (SFD) arrived on scene. SFD pronounced the victims deceased.

Police determined that a man driving a transport bus unintentionally backed into a designated smoking area, or smoke shack, within a private parking lot.

When reversing, the vehicle struck two elderly women, killing them. A third woman narrowly escaped the crash, and she was not injured.

Police cordoned off the area and detectives with the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad arrived and processed the scene.

The driver stayed on scene and cooperated with police. A Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) evaluated him and found no signs of impairment. Officers released the driver from custody pending the investigation.
