
Seattle police officers arrested a 43-year-old man for assaulting another man with an axe in Belltown this evening.
At about 6:50 p.m., patrol officers responded to a fight disturbance in an alley near Blanchard Street and 1st Avenue. Two men got into an altercation with one another, and during the disturbance, one of the men attacked the other man with an axe.
Officers separated both parties and applied a tourniquet to the victim, who had a severe incision wound to his arm and an injury to his head, with significant blood loss.
The Seattle Fire Department (SFD) arrived and provided medical treatment for the victim. SFD transported the 57-year-old man to Harborview Medical Center in serious, but stable condition.
Officers arrested the suspect and booked him into King County Jail for Investigation of Assault. Police recovered the weapon as evidence. The circumstances leading up the incident are under investigation.
Detectives in the Homicide and Assault Unit will be assigned to this case.
