Seattle police robbery detectives and officers in SPD’s Community Response Group (CRG) arrested a prolific robbery suspect and two other associated criminals in South Seattle yesterday afternoon.
Robbery detectives, while investigating a string of violent convenience store robberies dating back to 2024, developed probable cause to arrest an 18-year-old man for 10 counts of Robbery in the First Degree. Police found this suspect to be part of violent crew suspected of doing over 80 violent crimes throughout Seattle and King County last year.
On Aug. 14, with the assistance of the CRG, detectives located the primary suspect at a trade school in the 6700 block of Corson Avenue South. Police waited until the suspect exited the school to move in and arrest him. He immediately ran from the cops. CRG chased him on foot, eventually capturing him.
During the foot chase, before his arrest, the primary suspect dropped his backpack that he was carrying. Friends of his grabbed the discarded bag and ran off into the school away from the pursuing CRG team.
Officers chased after them and they were initially stopped by staff at the school forbidding the officers from entering, despite robbery detectives having already notified the school’s security, who were working with police. Ultimately, officers went into the school and found the second suspect who took the backpack. This 19-year-old student at the school, assaulted three police officers while attempting his escape.
This second suspect was in possession of an un-serialized firearm, also known as a ghost gun, and detectives believe this weapon came from the primary suspect’s backpack. Police arrested him for Rendering Criminal Assistance and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. He is a six-time convicted felon and is prohibited from carrying firearms.
CRG officers also chased after a third suspect, 19 years old, who took off running from them and was also associated with the primary suspect’s discarded backpack. CRG arrested him, also a student at the school, for an outstanding warrant for Unlawful Possession of Firearm, issued by King County Juvenile Court for Robbery in the First Degree – Display deadly weapon.
Additional charges for Obstructing a Law Enforcement Officer may be added to each suspect as detectives complete their investigation.
Robbery detectives recognized the Seattle Police Department’s skilled CRG team who were “patient and diligent in their duties in getting a violent suspect off the streets.”
